January Favorites

During the month of January my favorite things normally consist of whatever I received for Christmas in the previous month. And soon you will see that practically all of these items I did indeed receive last month. These are the items that I have found myself using, wearing, and even eating this past month!

Jean Jacket

So this piece falls under the category of “Things I got for Christmas that I am totally obsessed with.” I have seen jean jackets all over Pinterest, and wanted to try one out. I’ve probably worn it 5+ times since it was given to me, so this jacket was a for sure favorite. And best of all, it won’t break the bank!

Beanie with Fur Pom

My aunt surprised me with this beanie at Christmas, and ever since then I have seen them ALL  OVER! I have noticed that CC, the brand, is mostly sold in little boutiques at a very reasonable price (this one is only $14). It also comes in 20+ colors!

Plaid, Monogram Gloves

This was a 2016 Christmas gift that I am STILL obsessed with. When I originally saw these oh so long ago, the wintery plaid with a monogram caught my eye. Because I can only wear gloves for 3ish months out of the year, you know I will be looking for some excuses to pull out these personalized cuties.

Birthday Cake Oreos

Super random, yet super delicious! To some… my mom claims that these specially flavored oreos are nasty, but my sister and I were quick to devour the whole package.

Steve Madden Slip-On Sneakers

I LOVE these shoes! These sneakers were also included on my Gift Guide for Girls post (mainly because I wanted them myself!). When I got them on Christmas Day, I lost whatever shoes I was wearing and slipped on these. And than proceeded to wear them for 4 more days. They are so easy to wear, and will probably be a favorite for many months to come.

Round Frame Sunglasses

Writing this now I realize that sunglasses are much more commonly bought during the spring and summer months, but there is still sun in January right?! (I write as I sit here watching it rain) I am a sucker for a cute (and very cheap) pair of tortoiseshell sunglasses. My favorite sunglasses from last year were a pair of tortoiseshell wayfarer sunglasses, and I figured it was about time to add a new, yet similar, pair into the mix.

Camp Mug

During the snow-pocalypse of January 2018, lots and lots of hot chocolate was consumed and what is hot chocolate if it isn’t in a cute mug? I have taken a liking to camp style mugs. I do not have this exact one, but it was the cutest and most comparable to my Dad’s from the 90s (yes, it is still in existence).

Cleanse me, that I may be pure; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Psalm 51:9

Stay safe in the snow folks!

DIY Cactus Initial Garland

Today I’m back on the blog sharing a DIY on my latest favorite thing, cacti!! Ever since spring break in Palm Springs, I have been obsessed!! You can definitely find many cacti all over my Pinterest and this is actually where the idea for this DIY came from.

This is the image I saw on Pinterest that I decided to mimic, using my Cricut. This is a garland that you can purchase on Esty here. This garland is different than mine in that 1) it is sparkly, 2) has flowers, 3) and is much longer. I also strung mine on the string with tape, not through holes. I decided to make this garland spur of the moment, so everything I used I already owned. The sparkly paper is adorable and I am considering purchasing sparkly paper to do it over!!

Screen Shot 2017-04-23 at 3.51.44 PM.png

First, I added 4 cacti to the design space. The cacti are about 3 inches wide and 5 inches long. This was a really good size, and if I made a longer garland I would probably use the dimensions. I sent this to the mat and cut it on green paper.

Screen Shot 2017-04-23 at 3.53.57 PM

After cutting the cacti, I cleared the design space and added an “S” in the free font Silom. The “S” was the same size as the cacti. Then I sent this to the mat and cut it on pink paper.

To attach the cutouts to the twine, I used duct tape.

Here’s the final look!

HOW TO: DIY Wood Slices

Hey Y’all!! So since the beginning of summer I have been practicing my modern hand lettering/calligraphy. I LOVE using it in other ways than writing on paper and seeing this idea all over Instagram inspired me. I found small wood slices at Micheals,  but thought that they were a little expense (per piece) considering I could find them in my backyard. And I did. So with my dad’s help, I took a large stick and cut it down into the slices you’ll see below. Enjoy!!

SUPPLIES: paint brush, wood slice, chalkboard paint, a pencil, and you will also want a small circular object to trace

So first I took a circular object and traced with the pencil. This is the area is where you will chalkboard paint the wood.

Next, I painted in the circle and left just a little border around the paint. I found it kind of hard to stay within the line, but I think that it ended up looking pretty good! My paint bottle said to let it sit for 24 hours, so I left it there overnight and picked back up the next day.

After it was dried I took this chalkboard marker (which worked GREAT!) and wrote an E for part of a gift my sister will be receiving.

Favorite Fall Accessories

Although it is still around or above 90 degrees everyday where I live, I am pretty ready for the leaves to start changing colors and the weather to cool down. Summer will definitely be missed, but the heat won’t (until it is 20 degrees out).

Today marks the beginning of fall blog posts for me, and I could not be more excited. Fall is  sure a fun season with football, pumpkins, and one of Starbucks’ best drinks. Another reason Autumn is fun is because of the cute, warm, and cozy outfits that surround you. All over Pinterest outfits have been shown, but what is an outfit without the perfectly complementing accessories?

What’s In My Backpack

The start of a school year means an end to summer, which is super sad. I have been in school for a little over a week and just been trying to get back in the swing of things. Managing schoolwork and the blog is hard, but I try my best to get material to y’all as often as possible. I have decided to (try to) put out a blog entry every WEDNESDAY until further notice.

Today I am here sharing my backpack/school supplies with you. Starting school is not fun at all with homework, quizzes, tests, projects, and essays beginning to pile up, but maybe a fun, bright glimpse into pretty school supplies will help ease the pain. I hope you enjoy this peek in!

This is my The North Face black Jester backpack. Usually black would not be my go to color (as you see in the background ;), but I actually really like it.

The black sure is plain but I spiced it up with a monogram keychain. Here is an even cuter monogram chain in a Lilly pattern with a tassel!

So this is what the inside looks like! Right now, it is packed full of binders, textbooks, an agenda, and workbooks. The bag normally fits just what I need it to and doesn’t look like a rock crushing me on my back!

IMG_2897This is a similar cosmetic bag repurposed as a pencil pouch with a monogram. If you have to write your name on it, why not monogram it?! p.s. The Royal Standard has so many super cute pouches just like this!

These two books are a small example of the items I carry to and from school every day.

The next section is the small compartment that I do not put any books in. This backpack consists of two pockets one I like to keep my books in, and another that I like to keep like t0 keep my necessities in. It also has a pocket for a laptop in the main part, I like to keep a folder for excess paper in here.

Contact solution, mints, tissues, a mirror, and bandaids are some things that I try to always keep in my bag. So helpful to myself or anyone who needs it.

Last, but not least, is obviously my 2015-2016 Lilly Pulitzer agenda. Personally these planners work AWESOME for me, but I know some people who do not care for them.

DIY Watercolor Bookmarks

I am not the kind who admires spending my time reading, but school required summer reading has me spending much more time than I would like flipping through the pages of a book. If there is one thing that I have noticed about the learning process it is that learning is more fun when you have fun and cute supplies. Today I am here to show you a diy, a post I enjoy writing, that will make reading more fun if it isn’t your favorite or even more fun if it is.

watercolor needs

This project requires white cardstock, a pencil, scissors, watercolor paints, a paint brush, and a marker. A thick tip crayola marker works well.

Now, draw a 5in by 1.5 in rectangle out on the cardstock and cut that rectangle out.

After cutting, paint the bookmark any color you would like. I would recommend painting in a horizontal pattern.

Now is the time to write on your bookmark. On this example I wrote “just read”, but on another I wrote “<3 read” and “love books”. Make sure that the paint is dry before you write on your bookmark. PS: a thick tip Crayola marker works just as well as a hand lettering marker.
